The SACC Regional Qualifier of the IPF National Nature Competition 2014 in association with Mahers Photographic was held on Sunday, January 26th @ Amelian Theatre, Mallow, Co.Cork. Unfortunately I was unable to attend this year due to previous commitments but I still managed to pick up an award or two. There were a couple of changes to the competition this year, including the introduction of a new projected category called ‘The Natural World’. Images in this category only did NOT need to meet the FIAP Nature requirements. The other change relates to the introduction of advanced/intermediate levels at National Finals. Please read this article on IPF website for further information.
The sections that one could enter were as follows:
- Colour Print (FIAP)
- Projected Image (FIAP)
- NEW – Projected – The Natural World
- Colour Print – Peatland Ireland (FIAP)
- Projected Image – Birds Feeding (FIAP)
In addition, the SACC awarded certificates for Best Flora, Best Fungi and Best Bug. The judges for this years competition were Mark Sedgwick FIPF EFIAP – Celbridge Camera Club and Jack Malins ARPS – Wicklow Camera Club. I do not envy them their job as it is difficult to judge and provide feedback on a diverse range of images that are displayed before them on the day. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
The results came out a few days after the event and I picked up a Gold medal in the Projected Image (Advanced) for the section “The Natural World” with my image “Deep Dive” and a honourable mention for my image “Catch” in the projected themed section “Birds Feeding”. Not a bad start to 2014 for me now . Image are shown below. Thanks to all involved on the day within the SACC and Mallow Camera Club.
